What real halal looks like in 2026
A look at what accredited bodies actually require, and why "halal on the shelf" is not the same as halal on the farm.

In 2026, halal stopped being a checkbox on the packaging. Accredited bodies now require a document tied to a specific animal and a specific slaughter. This piece walks through what gets checked, how to read a certificate, and why "extended halal" is a marketing invention.
What gets checked
- The farm document. Living conditions, feed, water composition.
- The slaughter document. The crew, the imam, the blade, the video of the process.
- The cold-chain document. Temperature control from farm to store.
What isn't on the list
"Premium halal," "extended halal," "family halal" — these are not categories. They're marketing. Either there is a certificate, or there isn't.
How we handle it at Hiba
You upload the document once, and we attach it to every lot. If the document expires, the lot is automatically pulled from the listing until it's renewed.
